Highlights From Plant Trials At Franklin Park Conservatory And Botanical Gardens [Slideshow]

The Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens in Columbus, Ohio, is in its third year of annuals, perennials and vegetables trials. Unlike the typical trial garden setup with rows of the different varieties, the trial gardens at Franklin Park have been designed with a traditional landscape feel in mind for season-long color and interest. Additionally, Franklin Park is host to the All-America Selections vegetable and annual display gardens.

Perennial entries are evaluated for three years at the trial gardens. If at any time during the three year evaluation period more than 75 percent have failed, the entry will be removed from the program. All garden entries are evaluated three weeks after planting in May and one time per month through the end of October. The evaluations are then compiled and averaged to determine the overall top performers.
