“Gen X consumers are looking for information and ideas,” says Jim Monroe, Hort Couture CEO. “This program delivers that with great plants and modern packaging. It has tremendous potential in the market. We have several growers that are already on board. The plugs are all certified organic as well, so the grower has the option of continuing with an organic program if they wish.”

In addition to the Culinary Couture Collection, Hort Couture unveiled several new Avant Garde Annuals. Alternanthera sommelier ‘Pinot Gris,’ which grows 6 inches tall and loves the heat and humidity, is the newest addition to the Sommelier Collection.

Ageratum ‘Azure Skies,’ meanwhile, has dark purple leaves that are topped with flower heads up to 6 inches across. The plant grows to 30 inches and resembles a purple-leaved hydrangea.

Six new coleus join the Chris Baker Signature Collection for 2009. ‘Gnash Rambler’ is a great new color in duck foot genetics, the ‘Juicy Lucy’ has a warm Orange hue, ‘The Morning After’ has small chartreuse leaves suffused with black netting and ‘Zesty Zucchini’ is an incredible mix of a radish-colored midrib with a zucchini green leaf center surrounded by rutabaga gold leaf margin.

Two new great accent plants for mixed containers and baskets are plectranthus ‘Fuzzy Wuzzy’ and the giant Setcreasea pallida ‘Grape Ape’ with leaves up to 3 inches wide in a deep purple hue.
