Industry’s Choice Award: 3D Osteospermums

Industry's Choice Award: 3D Osteospermums

Selecta’s 3D osteospermums were a favorite of Greenhouse Grower Editor Delilah Onofrey, who bestowed them with her annual Editor’s Choice award Monday night.

Greenhouse Grower’s industry panel, which includes growers C. Raker & Sons, Mast Young Plants, Welby Gardens and Metrolina Greenhouses, as well as McHutchison’s Vaughn Fletcher, Walmart’s Michelle Radecki and the University of Georgia’s Allan Armitage, is quite fond of the 3D osteospermums as well. The panel bestowed Selecta’s revolutionary introduction with its Industry’s Choice award.

Ball FloraPlant’s ‘Black Velvet’ petunia and Proven Winners’ ‘Snow Princess’ lobularia are previous Industry’s Choice award winners.

Joining the 3D osteospermums as finalists for this year’s Industry’s Choice award are:

Ornamental Corn ‘Field of Dreams’
Floranova’s ornamental corn ‘Field of Dreams,’ is a versatile accent for containers, gardens and landscapes. Plants produce variegated ribbons of green, white and pink. It grows five feet tall in the garden or can be limited in a container.

Verbena ‘Lanai Twister Pink’
Bred by Syngenta Flowers, this unique bicolor with a dark pink center surrounded by light pink will surely delight consumers. Backed by the performance of the Lanai verbena series, plants are more disease tolerant and thrive in the heat.

Costa Farms Releases 2015 Midseason Top Performers

Costa Farms has announced the mid-season top performers in its 2015 Season Premier Trial Garden. Its research and development team has been working to grow and evaluate hundreds of varieties and their findings have been published online. The plants presented in the report have thrived in Miami’s mid-spring conditions. Every spring, the company’s research and development team trials more than 500 varieties of annuals, perennials and tropical plants from plant breeders around the world. All of the varieties have been tested in Costa Farms’ 2-acre Season Premier Trial Garden in Miami, Fla. The team assesses the plants for abundance of bloom, crop uniformity and overall performance. Within the report, the varieties are organized by their color. “There’s one thing pretty much everyone who shops has in mind when they step into a garden center: color,” the report states. Because of that, the report is divided by hue, so everyone can zero in on their favorite. Click here to […]
