What to Expect at the Perennial Plant Symposium in Denver in July

Echinacea ‘Butterfly Rainbow Marcella’The Perennial Plant Association’s annual Symposium will bring attendees to the Mile High City this summer. This year’s Perennial Plant Symposium takes place July 23-28 in Denver, CO, and features 28 educational sessions, six local tours, and a trade show.

The event kicks off on Sunday, July 23, with “Perennial Inspiration,” a day-long seminar featuring six perennial experts, including Mike Bone, Lauren Springer Ogden, Pat Hayward, Brie Arthur, Tammy Hartung, and Debi Borden-Miller. First-day attendees can also enjoy a tour of Colorado Springs, with a chance to visit a combination of natural, retail, production, and private gardens.

Monday, July 24, features a full-day Fort Collins tour. Attendees will visit the Colorado State University Trial Gardens, iconic perennial growers, a propagation greenhouse, and retailers, and then cap off the day with dinner and brews at High Hops Brewery.

Tuesday, July 25 features several educational sessions and a trade show, with presentations from perennial experts such as Panayoti Kelaidis, Paul Pilon, Shannon Currey, and many others. The afternoon is divided into three concurrent sessions for growers, landscape designers, and retailers. Throughout the day, visitors can attend the trade show to see the latest new perennial introductions.

Wednesday, July 26, features three local industry tours: a grower tour, a retail tour, and a landscape design tour. The day concludes with dinner at the scenic Denver Botanic Gardens’ Chatfield Farms.

The Symposium comes to a close on Friday, July 28, with a day-trip to Vail, CO, to visit the Betty Ford Alpine Garden and enjoy an alpine walk with fellow horticulture friends.
