PDSI (Plant Development Services, Inc.) and Southern Living have added new varieties to the Southern Living Plant Collection for Spring 2011, including a variety of new shrubs, a Yaupon holly tree, heat tolerant rhododendrons and early-blooming crapemyrtles. Each plant in the collection is the result of years of plant evaluations, plant trials and consumer research. The Collection is available through retail garden centers across the Southeast.
The new early-blooming Early Bird Crapemyrtles begin blooming in May, often as early as Mother’s Day, and much earlier than June-July blooming crapemyrtles. They offer blooming capabilities with 100 to 120 days of color with moderate to fast growth, reaching an average height of 5′ to 8′ tall and wide. The new Early Bird Crapemyrtles are available in three color options: purple, lavender and white.
The Southern Living Plant Collection, first introduced in Spring 2008, provides consumers with innovative new plants designed to solve specific landscape challenges and to excel in Southern gardens.
