Yucca ‘Bright Star’

This stunning variegated plant is a center of attention in any garden with its sword-like leaves that feature broad yellow margins and sage green centers. ‘Bright Star’ is a drought-tolerant, Southeastern United States native that’s well suited for xeriscapes or in low-maintenance containers. ‘Bright Star’ grows best in USDA Zones 7 to 10.

This ligularia’s dramatic, leathery leaves are 12 inches across and deeply cut like a snowflake or the wings of a mythical creature. Yellow summer flowers in slender, dense racemes. The leaves and flower spikes have dark purple stems that add to the drama. ‘Dragon Wings’ has a clumping habit and is best if protected from the hottest sun and kept evenly moist. It grows best in Zones 4 to 8.

Acanthus ‘Whitewater’

This vigorous, variegated acanthus has striking, bold leaves with deeply cut white margins and splashing. ‘Whitewater’ makes a large clump with 4-to-5-foot tall ornamental flower stalks of pink and cream in summer. It was bred with acanthus ‘Summer Beauty’ for vigor, more hardiness and heat and humidity tolerance. ‘Whitewater grows best in Zones 7 to 10.
