Top 5 varieties overall:

Alyssum ‘Snow Princess’

Pennisetum ‘Red Riding Hood.’ A dwarf pennisetum that has incredible color power throughout the season. The deep red-burgandy foliage accents the early season garden and the blooms emerge in late June and are burgundy. The plant grows to around 4 feet tall and around 3 feet wide. The flowers are held around 1 foot above the plant.

Cleome ‘Senorita Rosalita.’ Grows to around 3 feet tall and as wide with incredible pinkish-purple blooms that last all summer and don’t require deadheading. In addition, no bare legs–it keeps its dark leaves all season as well. The sterile flowers are thornless. It’s an excellent plant for butterflies, bees and is drought and heat tolerant.

Gomphrena ‘Fireworks.’ This wonderful gomphrena doesn’t require deadheading and has pinkish blooms that last all season on top of 3-foot-tall plants. The flowers are attractive to bees and butterflies and can be used for cut and dried flowers. Very heat and drought tolerant.

Millet ‘Jade Princess.’ This dwarf millet has lime-green to chartreuse foliage with good branching habits that supports the reddish-purple blooms that fade to gray. The plant grows to around 2-3 feet tall and the blooms are around 1 foot in length. Loves the heat and sun.
