We plant our garden beginning in early to mid April and cross our fingers that we do not get a late hard freeze. We usually have practically all our plants in the ground by mid May.
What Was Planted:
Raised beds, hanging baskets, and larger cement containers comprise most of our trial garden.
How Many Entries, Pots, etc.
In addition to our raised beds, we have approximately 150 large cement containers and at least 120 hanging baskets around our garden. We try to maximize using every square millimeter of space we have.
Number Of Entries:
Approximately 900-1000 annual cultivars appear in our garden each year.
This summer’s weather in Athens, GA was the most brutal ever it seems. From the beginning of June through the end of September, there was seldom a day that did not reach 90-95F. Many of these days were 100+F especially when considering the heat indices. Earlier in the summer, we received a few regular rains, however by mid summer, the rain clouds disappeared leaving the plants and us to saute’ under the blazing sun.
