New Varieties Guide 2009: PlantHaven

Plant Haven celebrated its new varieties as works of art with artistic canvasses depicting the varieties displayed with the plants. As an independent breeder’s agency, PlantHaven looks for plants that are special and matches them with licensed growers for propagation. As artists, the breeders hail from all over the world. Most are independent specialists. Some are hobbyists, and in some cases, the variety may be a sport a grower discovered. Last year’s big discovery was the Royal Hawaiian colocasias from the University of Hawaii, which won our Editor’s Choice award.

Being a unique company, PlantHaven exhibits at a unique garden center–Island View Nursery in Carpinteria, Calif. PlantHaven’s offerings blur the lines between annuals, perennials and shrubs, as well as tropical and hardy plants. They are versatile in how they can be used in containers or in landscapes and expand the plant palette with high quality offerings. Nothing is a me-too.
