The Oregon Garden Plans Expansion

“Conifer Day,” June 13, will kick off expansion plans for a rare conifer garden at The Oregon Garden, doubling the size of its current Conifer Garden and moving away from its more formal feel.

Currently hosting one of the largest collections of rare dwarf and miniature conifers in the U.S., The Oregon Garden will expand in a number of areas. “It will have more of a walk-in-the-woods feel as opposed to its current formal design,” says Jeff Pera, assistant horticulture manager for The Oregon Garden. Additionally, the garden hopes to include more giant conifers (sequoias).

Plans to incorporate a meadow expanse and a gorge with a 12-foot waterfall have also been added. The Oregon Garden team expects this water feature to “eventually empty into the garden’s wetlands.”

The “Conifer Day” celebration and kick-off is a collaboration between The Oregon Garden and the Western Chapter of the American Conifer Society. Admission is free to the public and will include access to tours, a plant sale that will benefit the expansion, and artist renderings of the Conifer Garden expansion project.
