Magnolia 'Brackens Brown Beauty'
Southern (evergreen) magnolia is a significant cultivar because, unlike the species, it is reliably winter hardy in zone 6. Leathery foliage is shiny on top and reddish-brown underneath giving a bicolor appearance. In late spring, and sporadically throughout the summer, huge 8" fragrant, white blossoms open to perfume the entire garden. Its carefree nature makes it an ideal magnolia for low-maintenance landscapes.
