This cultivar from Japan was selected for its outstanding compact habit and early fruiting age. Delicate pink flowers in spring give way to beautiful lavender-purple berries produced along the stems in late summer. 'Issai' (which means "fruiting at a young age" in Japanese) will perform best in full sun to partial shade. Crown hardy in Zone 4 where it will reliably grow back to 4' and flower and fruit. Rarely to never fed on by Japanese beetles.
