The wings are more pronounced and the habit is mounded and compact rather than upright. Versatile enough to use as a hedge, screen, en masse, in borders and is pretty enough for a specimen plant. 'Grove Compactus' will tolerate shade, but should be planted in sun for the most dramatic fall color.
