Designed by William McDonough + Partners, the Method plant is anticipated to also be the world’s first LEED-Platinum certified manufacturing plant in the cleaning product industry. According to a Method press release, the plant features include a refurbished wind turbine, solar panel installations, large amounts of natural light throughout the factory and native land renewal across 22 acres.

Gotham Greens will design, build and operated a state-of-the-art greenhouse on the roof of the plant. According to an October 7 article in Yahoo Finance, the greenhouse will aim to produce up to 1 million pounds of fresh, sustainably grown, pesticide-free produce annually. The produce will be distributed through local Chicago retailers, restaurants, farmer’s markets and community groups.
