Dümmen Orange Sells Part of its Dutch Anthurium Facilities to HouwenPlant

Dümmen Orange has signed a letter of intent with Anthurium grower and long-time business partner HouwenPlant for the sale of Dümmen’s facilities at Hofzichtlaan in De Lier (the Netherlands).
Dümmen Orange currently breeds and propagates its Anthurium products on the site. It also cultivates finished and pre-finished plants there.
As it has in other market segments, Dümmen Orange is switching its focus to breeding and propagation in the Anthurium segment. Production of finished and pre-finished products will be taken over by HouwenPlant.
To enable it to continue its breeding and propagation activities in De Lier, Dümmen Orange will be renting back half of the space for the next two years. Staff on the site will continue to be employed by Dümmen Orange.
“We will certainly remain active in the Anthurium segment,” says Hugo Noordhoek Hegt, CEO of Dümmen Orange. “The only difference is that our focus is shifting to the starting material, which is our core business. Over the next two years, we will be looking into and deciding where to definitively establish our breeding and propagation activities in this segment. By renting back part of the facilities in De Lier for now, we can take our time to thoroughly investigate all the options and make a well-informed decision.”
“We urgently need to expand our production capacity,” says Tom van der Houwen, co-owner of HouwenPlant. “This site in De Lier is a good fit for our production organization and we are delighted that we can combine our ambitions with those of Dümmen Orange in this way.”
