Houweling’s Tomatoes Has A New Corporate Head Grower
Houweling’s Tomatoes has a new head grower. The hydroponic tomato and cucumber growing operation with locations in Delta, BC; Camarillo, CA; and Mona, UT, recently named Arie van der Giessen to the position of Corporate Head Grower beginning Sept. 1, 2016.
Born and educated in the Westland of Holland, van der Giessen’s management career began there in 1980 until 1998, when he emigrated to the U.S. For the last 18 years, he has led the horticultural operations for many successful regional and national greenhouse operators in North America.
Upon joining the company, van der Giessen will relocate to Camarillo and oversee the horticultural management of the more than 200 acres of Houweling’s Group greenhouse farms.
What excites van der Giessen the most about joining Houweling’s?
“Ultimately, it is the opportunity. I’ve had wonderful experiences in my career in both Europe and North America. The opportunity to use that experience and join a dynamic business that has long been at the forefront of innovation in the greenhouse industry internationally is very exciting.”
Commenting on the appointment, Kevin Doran, President and COO of Houweling’s says, “Arie brings a pedigree in greenhouse growing that is all about excellence in every facet: the superb technical skills, the rich industry experience, and the leadership qualities to deliver results through teamwork.”
Company owner Casey Houweling adds, “I’ve known Arie personally for years, and we are strengthening our management team with a person of character, who is committed to product quality excellence.”
