The 2014 Chesapeake Green Horticultural Symposium Draws Record Numbers

The 2014 Chesapeake Green Horticultural Symposium had record attendance at the Maritime Institute and Conference Center on February 20 and 21, 2014.

“More than 375 people attended the two-day event, including speakers and representatives from some of our 24 sponsoring companies,” says Vanessa Finney, executive director of the Maryland Nursery and Landscape Association (MNLA).

The two-day symposium includes 11 tracks, 32 presentations, 28 speakers, one keynote and two exams. This year, the Professional Fertilizer Applicator training and exam for turf grass professionals, which is now mandated by a new Maryland state law, was added alongside the traditional pesticide recertification exam.

“We begin planning the symposium in early summer, and it takes a tremendous amount of personal communication and follow-up, so it is extremely gratifying to have a turnout this strong,” says conference co-founder, Hank Doong of Behnke Nurseries.

“Conference attendees love the location. Company owners love the price. The speakers tell us how much they enjoy presenting, and as hard as we work on this event, the food at the Maritime gets as much praise as the program does in our annual survey,” says Finney.
