Allan Armitage: Columnist, Author, Professor … Tennis Champion?

Allan-Armitage-Tennis-TeamAs most folks in the horticulture industry already know, Dr. Allan Armitage, Greenhouse Grower’s Contributing Editor and long-time Professor in the Department of Horticulture at the University of Georgia, is passionate about plants. What you might not know, however, is that he is also very talented when it comes to tennis.

In fact, his U.S. Tennis Association team recently won the National Tennis Championship for his age group. The team won the state championship of Georgia in November 2017 in Atlanta. Then in December, they went on to win the Southern Region Championship in Phoenix.

Following that accomplishment, they beat the regional winners from the Midwest, then Southern California, then the Mid-Atlantic region, then Puerto Rico to get to the final four. In the final four, they beat the New England region in the semifinals, and finally Hawaii for the championship.

“It was truly a team effort,” Armitage says.
