California Spring Trials Day Three – New Intros for 2018 from American Takii, Sakata, Westhoff, and More
On day three of California Spring Trials, the Greenhouse Grower team visited American Takii where it saw several new intros for 2018, including a fragrant new petunia. Sakata was the next stop, where new varieties were displayed in a lifestyle settings. Two notable varieties included Zinnia ‘Profusion Red,’ a new series of dwarf snaps called Candytops, and a new SuperCal petunia. Sakata Vegetables showed off a new series of dwarf tomatoes, along with new peppers and greens. The Floricultura stop featured breeding from Westhoff, Plug Connection, Gediflora, PAC Elsner, Beekenkamp, and Flamingo Holland. Westhoff had several great combos and allowed visitors to vote on their favorites. It also had lots of new intros to spread the word about. Beekenkamp had a stunning display of eye-catching dahlias and some new osteospermums.

Petunia 'Evening Scentsation' from American Takii has iridescent purple petals and stands out for its fragrance. It was awarded a 2017 All-American Selection award for its scent, which is similar to hyacinth with tones of rose and honey.

This is one of two experimental canna colors destined for the South Pacific Series from American Takii. Breeders have worked on improving the germination and increasing the growing time.
