HGTV Home Plant Collection Debuts New Expressions Annuals for 2014
The HGTV HOME Plant Collection unveiled its new Expressions Annuals for 2014 during the OFA Short Course in Columbus, Ohio, on July 14. The new annuals collections include Shady Showoffs, So Gorgeous! Geraniums, Fine Vines Mandevillas and WonderCalis Calibrachoas, says Randy Hunter, managing partner of Agricola Management Group, the exclusive licensee for the Plant Collection.
“We’ve had tremendous response to the launch of the HGTV Home Plant Collection and Expressions Annuals in 2013,” Hunter says. “Retailers and consumers alike have embraced our pre-selected annual mixes that take the guesswork out of which plants go best together in container gardening. Now, we’re looking forward to continued expansion in 2014 with more exciting new pre-selected annual mixes,” Hunter says.
HGTV worked in conjunction with Agricola Management Group to develop the Expressions Annuals Collections, which includes the new plant varieties for 2014.
“For 2014, we’re branching out in new directions with three of the new annuals collections,” Hunter says. “There’s big demand for hardy shade annuals, zonal geraniums and mandevillas, and these collections answer that demand. Our fourth collection, WonderCalis, is our new calibrachoa group with additional tropical hues. They join our original calibrachoa collection called Confetti Craze that’s been very popular this year.”
Each of the new Expressions Annuals collections address different gardening needs. Shady Showoffs is designed to thrive in shady garden areas and features floriferous begonias, impatiens and shade-loving petunias. So Gorgeous! Geraniums satisfy the need for “thrillers” in containers and hanging baskets with their bold colors, big double flowers and dark green foliage. Fine Vines Mandevillas are a bush form of disease-resistant, vigorous mandevillas heavy flowering while WonderCalis provide constant color and extra large blooms with low maintenance. The new Expressions Annuals join the original six collections — Confetti Craze, Friendly Fusions, Sassy Sweethearts, Big & Bold, Pop N’ Polish Petunias and Chic Black N’ White.
All the Expressions Annuals are available as mixes in gallons and decorative containers and as individual components or accent plants in quarts. By pre-selecting complementary annuals for the container garden and hanging basket mixes, HGTV and Agricola have performed the planning and plant coordination for the consumer, eliminating the need for customers to go through the nursery searching for plants that work together well. Consumers simply select their favorite Expressions mix, buy the components that are pre-selected to go together and they’re on their way. They know the Expressions container mixes will look beautiful and grow well with proper care for the entire season.
In addition to the pre-selection, consumers also have the benefit of HGTV Know How! — referring to the plant care tips, landscaping inspiration and gardening ideas featured on the products, online and in retail stores.
More than 950 retail locations across the country offered the original Expressions Annuals. Those retailers will also carry the new Expressions Annuals in 2014.
