Michigan State University (East Lansing, Mich.) 2015 Field Trials Results

The Michigan State University Demonstration Gardens trialed approximately 300 sponsored entries (including in-ground, container and hanging baskets), as well as around 200 entries from All-America Selections and Fleuroselect this year.

Spring was late to arrive, as was summer. Heavy rainfall (3.8 inches) and cool temperatures during May delayed garden preparations and planting. Continued heavy rainfall in June (9 inches) relieved the need for supplemental irrigation, but also prevented fertigation. Heavy rain continued in August (approximately 7 inches), which caused many late-season fungal diseases. Overall, temperatures were cooler than normal, with only a handful of days reaching the mid-80s.
