Poinsettia Trials Across The Eastern U.S. To Take Place In Early December
Poinsettia growers interested in keeping up with the latest variety and production trends have the chance to attend a number of university open houses in early December.
• The University of New Hampshire will be hosting its 11th annual Poinsettia Open House Dec. 1-3 at the Thompson School Greenhouses in Durham, NH. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Thompson School Greenhouse Facility and Horticulture Program.
• The Louisiana State University (LSU) AgCenter will host a poinsettia open house and sale on Dec. 2 at the LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens at Burden in Baton Rouge. Visitors will have the opportunity to take a survey and rate several poinsettia varieties, and are invited to stop in the lobby of the Ione Burden Conference Center to take a peek at a poinsettia Christmas tree. Those attending the open house will be asked to vote on their favorite new varieties.
“This public preference survey will guide recommendations made to poinsettia growers across the state,” says Jeff Kuehny, Resident Director at the Botanic Gardens at Burden. Proceeds from the sale go to fund research at the Botanic Gardens.
• The 2016 Ohio State University/AmericanHort Poinsettia Trials Open Houses take place in three different locations: Friday, Dec. 2 at Bostdorff Greenhouse in Bowling Green, OH; Wednesday, Dec. 7 at HJ Benken Florist & Greenhouse in Cincinnati; and Friday, Dec, 9 at Barco and Sons, Inc. in Medina, OH.
