Greenheart Farms in Arroyo Grande is known for propagating vegetable transplants and rose liners and is adding more ornamental crops. The company purchased cyclamen producer Mesa Magic Nursery in 2008. New at the trials was a comparison trial of all the leading cyclamen varieties.

Another new crop for Greenheart is hibiscuses. The Sunny Cities series boasts large flowers on compact plants in Apricot, Orange, Pink, Red, Yellow and White. Sunny Cities are ideal in 4-inch pots and finish in 10-12 weeks with one pinch. Plants were bred in Holland but licensed through Bosgraaf Greenhouse in Michigan. Another new tropical crop is nandinas from tissue culture.

Key rose lines shown at the trials include the Balconia Collection from Kordes for baskets, planter boxes and landscapes. The Veranda Collection, which resembles English garden types, are ideal for patio pots. My Bouquet roses are a cross between a minature rose and a hybrid tea.
