Alabama grower Carole Barton of Barton’s Greenhouse & Nursery gave the governor of Alabama a piece of her mind last week in a letter she wrote responding to the region’s water crisis. Barton, who is past president of Alabama Nursery & Landscape Association, has been a water warrior making sure the green industry is treated fairly during water restrictions.
For instance, there are many other industries that use a lot more water than growers and landscapers, but in manufacturing and behind closed doors in giant buildings. And they are not asked to make the same sacrifices. What makes one industry essential and not another?
