Precise Concentration

HANNA Instruments:

The HANNA Fertigation System provides precise control of pH and fertilizer injection. Unlike flow-driven systems of the past, the HANNA Fertigation System constantly measures the actual EC and pH of the water, allowing the system to add the precise concentration of fertilizer directly to the irrigation supply. The HANNA System is a bypass system, which does not limit line flow or pressure, allowing injection from 5 gpm up to 300 gpm accurately. The HI8000 series controller included with the system has 10 programs that allow the user to set various EC and pH values for a variety of plants. The system also controls up to 32 irrigation valves.

Controlling Growth

Ball Seed and SePRO:

For the spring 2007 season, SePRO’s plant growth regulator, A-Rest, will be available as a seed treatment on selected bedding plants in the United States exclusively through Ball Seed Company. Treated seed will be sold as Ball Controlled Growth Seed as part of the Ball Premier Line. Ball Controlled Growth combines the high-quality benefits of A-Rest for control of early seedling stretch with seed technology from Ball Seed. By determining the optimum treatment rate of A-Rest for each seed lot and applying the treatment during the coating or pelleting process, Ball Controlled Growth provides consistent, early growth control.

Pumped Up

Westcott Distribution Inc.:

The new GT Multi-pump Dispensing System is the latest addition to Westcott Distribution Inc.’s line of cost-effective pumping solutions for spill-free, environmentally safe transference of virtually any chemical or liquid. The new pumping system is designed to expand capability and streamline operations where multiple process chemicals are dispensed. The new GT Multi-pump Dispensing System allows simultaneous multiple liquid transfer stations to operate from a single compressor line at 2 psi. The basic system handles up to four pumps simultaneously. Additional system components can be added to meet any requirement.

Underwater Logger

Onset Computer Corporation:

Onset Computer Corporation recently announced the TidbiT v2, a compact data logger for underwater temperature monitoring applications. Offering higher resolution and increased memory capacity over the company’s original TidbiT data logger, the new TidbiT v2 provides reliable temperature measurements at depths of up to 1,000 feet. Roots To Re-Entry Transforms Lives

An inspired employment initiative takes green-job training behind prison walls to help inmates find jobs in urban agriculture and the landscaping industry upon their release, and along the way, it is changing lives for the better. The Roots To Re-Entry (R2R) job training program, conceived by the Pennsylvania Horticulture Society (PHS) and its partners, does more than teach inmates of the Philadelphia Prison System the skills they need to find meaningful employment; it also teaches them invaluable life skills. The PHS staff leads participants through a 16-week course that includes hands-on projects designed to teach them horticultural skills and provide them with training in landscape maintenance and greenhouse growing. In addition to English and math, the nonprofit Federation of Neighborhood Centers (FNC) offers supplemental courses in health education and employment preparedness. Upon inmates’ release from prison, the FNC assists R2R graduates with the transition to life outside prison walls by […]
