Henry F. Michell Company’s Henry F. Michell III Dies

Henry F. Michell III of the Henry F. Michell Co. passed away Thursday, May 29, 2014.

Michell, age 85, of Hilton Head Island, S.C., was the third generation to work for his family’s business after graduating from the Wharton School at The University of Pennsylvania in 1950. He spent his entire career at the company and held the position of President and CEO from 1984 until 2001 when he became Chairman of the Board.

Michell is survived by his wife, Elizabeth B. Michell of Hilton Head Island, his son Henry F. Michell IV (Catsy) of Wayne, Penn., stepson Samuel B. Wheeler (Ellen) of Devon, Penn., stepson William VB. Wheeler (Pat) of Philadelphia, Penn., and seven grandsons. He was predeceased by his daughter Rebecca E. Michell and stepson Harold B. Wheeler.

A post on the company’s Facebook page states “We are deeply saddened to share that Henry F. Michell III passed away this past Thursday afternoon. The Henry F. Michell Company is about to celebrate its 125 year anniversary. It is Hank’s wisdom that has steered the company he inherited to the next generation in his son Rick, Henry F. Michell IV…We will not only miss Hank as a great leader, but we also mourn the loss of his support, kindness and friendship.”

The Henry F. Michell Company has been supplying greenhouse growers, nurseries, landscapers and others with garden products for more than124 years. Its product line includes greenhouse plants, plugs, seed, nursery stock and supplies.
