Strawberry ‘Toscana’ Wins FleuroStar Award

Strawberry 'Toscana' Wins FleuroStar Award

Just as Greenhouse Grower has a panel choose the best new introductions at the California Spring Trials, Fleuroselect–the international ornamentals organization–has a panel choose the winner of the FleuroStar award. Thirty judges from a cross section of the industry chose the bedding plant with the most “wow” appeal. The six top entries were on display at eight Fleuroselect member locations–Benary, Combinations, Dummen, Fides, Florensis, PanAmerican Seed/Kieft-Pro-Seeds, Sakata and Syngenta Flowers.

This year’s winner is fragaria ‘Toscana,’ a gorgeous, trailing, blooming strawberry from ABZ Seeds. A real eyecatcher in patio planters, window boxes and beds, the variety forms attractive fruiting and flowering runners for the hobby gardener. The five runners-up were geranium ‘Salsarita Red’ from Dummen; osteospermum ‘Flower Power Double Berry White’ from Selecta; and cyclamen ‘Snowridge Mini Wine’ and verbenas ‘Lanai Candy Cane’ and ‘Lanai Lime Green’ from Syngenta Flowers.
