Syngenta Buys Yoder’s Mum And Asters Lines

Syngenta Buys Yoder's Mum And Asters Lines

Syngenta followed up its purchase of Goldsmith Seeds last week by acquiring the chrysanthemum and aster product lines from Yoder Brothers today. Syngenta now owns the rights to the genetics and breeding programs for Yoder’s chrysanthemum and aster lines, along with the Yoder brand name.

The remaining Yoder entities will continue to be owned and operated by Yoder Brothers and will do business under the Yoder name until next July. The name will then change, Syngenta Flowers President Gary Falkenstein says, to one that better reflects their remaining businesses.

“The pot mums are a great addition to our poinsettias, cyclamen, gerbera daisy and other pot crops,” Falkenstein says. “We are excited about how the acquisition reinforces our promise of innovation, quality and reliability.”

The acquisition will have the following impacts on you and the industry:

– Syngenta will continue to service customers with Yoder brand mums and asters from its facility in Alva, Fla., to ensure no disruption in quality and supply, breeding, production and distribution.

– Syngenta will maintain open channels for mums and asters in the U.S. through its existing broker network. For the coming season in Canada, Yoder mum and aster sales will continue to go through Yoder exclusively. Rooted garden mums can be obtained through Burnaby Lake and Linwell Gardens.

–For broker customers, it is Syngenta’s intent to move all order processing through the Syngenta Flowers system as soon as possible. The company will notify you when it makes that change, but until then, all orders will continue to be billed and paid through Yoder.

–Yoder sales will continue to provide Yoder mums and asters as a broker for Syngenta.

–For the 2009 season, Syngenta will honor current pricing, terms and conditions for the Yoder brand mum and aster orders.

  1. Will you continue to provide mum cuttings for student projects and research at no charge? If so, who do we contact to place an order?

  2. How can you just cancel an order for unavailability, when it was ordered it was reported as available. I would like to ad a different color, since we have already bought and filled our pots. Can anyone help?
