The cold room expansion provides more square footage for the facility and offers better temperature management for the products supplied by the company. In addition, the new cold room sets the stage for Darwin Perennials to supply reliable cuttings for AutoStix, an innovative machine meant to reduce the industry’s exposure to labor uncertainty.
“We are very excited for all the possibilities this new cold room affords,” says Jacco Kuipers, General Manager of Darwin Perennials. “The benefits are being applied already; its launch also redesigned our picking process, giving cuttings the best environment possible before they embark on their trip to the final customer.”
At the ribbon-cutting ceremony, the company also formally recognized the recent achievement of MPS-A certification for Darwin Colombia SAS, which was announced mid-July at Cultivate’18. MPS develops and manages sustainability certificates for the international flowers and ornamentals industry.
