Learning Opportunity: Energy Code Proposals for California Greenhouses

The “Nonresidential Covered Processes, Lighting Utility-Sponsored Stakeholder Meeting” is an upcoming event from the California Code and Standards Enhancement (CASE) initiative team, scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. PST. This first meeting on the topic serves as an opportunity to provide public comment on proposed energy code changes for California greenhouses and indoor farms.

With the goal of improving energy efficiency and system performance in California buildings, the “Controlled Environment Horticulture” sections of the agenda will cover changes to energy code requirements for horticultural lighting efficacy, as well as new code requirements for daylight-responsive controls for greenhouses.

The “Nonresidential Covered Processes, Lighting Utility-Sponsored Stakeholder Meeting” will cover the following proposed CASE reports:

  • CEH Daylight Responsive Controls
  • CEH PPE Lighting
  • Controlled Environment Horticulture HVAC/D
  • Indoor Lighting Controls
  • Lighting Power Density
  • Luminaire Classification and Power Exception for Alterations and Retrofits
