Industry Remembers NGMA’s Harold Gray

Harold Gray, who served the National Greenhouse Manufacturer’s Association as executive director for several years beginning in 1984, died early last week. He was 91.

Gray graduated with a bachelor’s degree in agricultural engineering from Kansas State University in 1940 and earned a Ph.D. at Cornell University. He became vice president of the greenhouse division of the Burnham Corporation in 1958. Later, Gray became the CEO for the National Greenhouse Corporation in Pana, Ill., which Nexus Corporation purchased in 1990.

After his retirement in 1984, Gray served as the executive director for the National Greenhouse Manufacturer’s Association. He is the author of “Farm Service Buildings” published by McGraw Hill and “Greenhouse Construction and Heating” published by Florist Publishing in addition to other technical articles on agricultural engineering subjects.
 
A memorial service celebrating Gray’s life was held on Saturday, June 13 at the North Stonington Congregational Church in Stonington, Conn. Donations can be made in Gray’s name to the North Stonington Congregational Church, 89 Main St., North Stonington, CT 06359.
