Launched by HRI, this program promotes healthy habitats for pollinators by funding research to inform the industry about best practices, educating horticultural businesses about effective stewardship practices, and communicating with the buying public about the best ways to support pollinators.
Million Pollinator Garden Challenge
The challenge is a nationwide call to action to preserve and create gardens and landscapes across America that provide healthy pollinator habitat. The goal of the campaign is to register a million pollinator gardens by the end of 2017.
This initiative boosts horticultural awareness and endeavors to grow the field of horticulture by advancing educational programs for students in middle school through college.
Floriculture & Nursery Research Initiative (FNRI)
This is a collaborative effort, part of the USDA-Agricultural Research Service, that ensures FNRI dollars are distributed to support research on emerging pest and disease problems, invasive plant species, labor issues, and improved environmental and resource management.
Intelligent Spray Technology
This project supports the development of technology that automatically adjusts spray output to the structure of the crop. It is partially funded through the Horticultural Research Institute’s Floriculture and Nursery Research Initiative partnership with USDA-ARS and additional funding from the Specialty Crop Research Initiative through the Farm Bill.
