Join SAF And Other Growers To #PetalItForward And Spread Happiness With Flowers

'Maché Rose' from Syngenta FlowersNext month, the Society of American Florists (SAF) will tap into the popularity of random acts of kindness with its latest public relations campaign, “Petal It Forward.”

On October 7, SAF’s marketing team will hit the streets of New York City and randomly present people with two bouquets: one to keep and one to share with someone special in their life or a stranger who could use a smile. To increase the campaign’s reach (and, of course, the message that flowers can make someone’s day), SAF will encourage the lucky recipients to share how they “petal it forward” by posting a picture using the hashtag #PetalItForward and tagging SAF’s Instagram (@About_Flowers) or Twitter (@FlowerFactor) accounts.

While SAF has focused its efforts on the city that never sleeps (because of its high volume of pedestrians and media opportunities), you can initiate you Petal It Forward giveaways in your own cities. Several of its members are taking part, including Dramm and Echter in Encinitas, Calif.

Visit the SAF website to find out how you can participate, and prepare to #PetalItForward.

My boyfriend knew that today was going to be a difficult day for me, so he presented me with a bouquet (okay, well actually both!). Later, as my day went on and I unfortunately had to go to court, I was surprised to see two more bouquets sitting on a bench outside the courtroom! Our local florist, Allan’s Flowers, had left them as part of Petal it Forward. I loved the concept and it was such a pleasant distraction. As I was waiting to go into court, I saw a lady I hadn’t seen in awhile. She was down on her luck, and I could see that clearly. Her face lit up when I gave her one of the two bouquets! This project brightened my day and hers and I’m excited to have fresh flowers in my life…it’s been awhile since I have. Thank you for a beautiful concept that certainly spreads happiness! 🙂
