Early Disease Pressure Prevention Management and Solutions

Spring is in the air, at least it is in the greenhouse. With that comes planning and protecting for early disease pressures.  Pressures such as Pythium, Fusarium, Rhizoctonia, Phytophthora, and Thielaviopsis are common in early production of many spring ornamentals. The first step to control is sanitation; making sure your soil or media is sterilized or fresh, checking plugs and liners to make sure they are free of disease when they arrive (starting with clean stock is crucial), disinfecting any used containers, and making sure the greenhouse walls, walkways and benches have been sanitized. Once all that is done, then cultural practices come into play. Control your moisture and ventilation, by adjusting watering habits as needed, control humidity levels with ventilation systems, and have adequate air flow with horizontal air flow fans.

Once these practices are in place, if disease is still a concern, Nufarm has solutions to help make growing a quality crop more efficient and cost effective. Solutions such as Spirato GHN, Affirm WDG, 3336, and Adorn have been the go-to for years for controlling common (and not so common) early disease pressures. Spirato, Affirm and 3336 all have ornamentals as well as edibles on the label. This gives you three great rotational products to have on hand that all have broad use labels! If Downy Mildew, Phytophthora and Pythium are your concern, then Adorn should be added to this rotation.

Please watch the following short video on controlling early disease pressures for more information on making your Spring 2023 a success by partnering with Nufarm.

In this short video, Nufarm Regional Sales Manager Jim Crockett discusses environment control and the best solutions available for early disease prevention and control in greenhouse and nursery plants.
