2016 University of Tennessee Field Trials Results

The University of Tennessee Gardens in Knoxville trialed more than 200 varieties of annuals, perennials, and roses this season. This year heat and drought was a challenge. Average temperatures are usually 31 days above 90°F in a summer, but this year the trials had 69 days between June and mid-September. Nightly low temperatures were above average, too, frequently exceeding 72°F. Rainfall in June, August, and September was below average. Supplemental irrigation was needed throughout those times.
