OFA’s Board of Directors appointed Charlie Hall, Ph.D. as its chief economist on July 15, 2012. He will work with and represent OFA to provide vision, leadership, analysis and technical competence required to achieve OFA and industry objectives. He is appointed for a two-year term.
Charlie Hall is a professor at Texas A&M University and holds the Ellison Endowed Chair in International Floriculture. Dr. Hall’s expertise in the production and marketing of Green Industry crops is nationally recognized in academia and among the horticultural clientele he serves.
His major research, teaching and extension areas of specialization include strategic management, market situation/outlook, cost accounting and financial analysis for Green Industry firms. He is an invited speaker at numerous regional, national and international meetings of various industry-related associations and organizations, including OFA events.
“We are excited to have Dr. Hall formally recognized as a partner of OFA, and his insight will help us develop and support programs that our industry needs,” said Michael V. Geary, CAE, the chief executive officer of OFA. “Charlie has been a friend of OFA for a very long time and we are pleased to extend that relationship into other areas. We are grateful and flattered that he accepted our invitation to serve in this capacity.”
“These are dynamic times and it is my pleasure to affiliate with an organization that is trying to move the needle for our industry,” Hall says. At the 2012 OFA Short Course, Hall is presenting several programs focused on the value of horticulture products and future economic conditions.
“It is important for business owners and managers to understand the various forces that are influencing their businesses. OFA provides a great platform to address these issues and a supportive environment to talk about them. I’m glad to be part of this community,” he says.
