Penn State Poinsettia Pointers

Penn State University will hosts its poinsettia growers trial and a day of education at Dan Schantz Farm & Greenhouses in Zionsville, Pa., on Nov. 8.

Growers will rise and shine for evaluation of the trials from 7:30 to 9:45 a.m. with the educational program beginning at 10 a.m. with a lineup of nationally known speakers:

  • Clemson University’s Dr. James Faust on growing poinesttias cool while maintaining quality. Growers can view the cold trials. Faust also will discuss solving common poinsettia problems.
  • Stan Pohmer asks the industry “Are we going in the right direction?”
  • Entomologist Dr. Richard Lindquist, formerly of The Ohio State University and now with OHP, presents management if insects and mites on poinsettias.
  • Dr. Kerry Richards on using pesticides safely

The group of speakers also will answer questions growers bring in to the World Famous Poinsettia Problem Clinic.
