2014 Field Trials Results: Pike Creek Horticulture Center (Kenosha, Wis.)

Pike Creek trialed approximately 60 varieties in 2014. This year’s trials included cut flowers for the first time and an increased number of vegetable trials. An exceptionally cool and wet summer kept pansies, alyssum, snapdragons and lettuce thriving though most of the summer. It also delayed the planting of a few trial plants outdoors until almost mid June.

The temperatures in southeast Wisconsin never made it to 90˚F, and the area received heavier than normal rainfall. Night temperatures in the 40s beginning in late August signaled an early end to the season.
