Master Nursery Garden Centers Reports Sales Increase for 2021

Master Nursery Garden Centers (MNGC) has reported its sales have increased due to its growing membership base, increased demand for organic gardening, adding new vendors, and expanding distribution coverage.

MNGC also celebrated its 70th anniversary as one of the nation’s largest independent garden center buying groups.

MNGC started in the San Francisco Bay Area in 1951 when seven independent garden centers partnered together to secure discounts and share marketing expenses. Today the company works with more than 500 retail garden centers and 140 suppliers to provide discounts to its members across the country.

“[MNGC] did so well in 2020 that more than $300,000 in profit sharing was paid out to the membership in January 2021,” says Jeff Lafferty, Chief Executive Officer of MNGC. “This is in addition to the $390,000 in rebates that will be paid in May 2021. Twenty-nine new MNGC members joined in 2020, resulting in the largest membership net gain in over a decade.”

With increases in membership, vendor additions, private label sales, gross profit margin, net income, and rebate programs, MNGC entered Spring 2021 with record-breaking sales.

The company’s latest expansion in the Midwest is expected to keep this momentum going, according to MNGC. The Midwest expansion has increased coverage for its branded products and carries its leading product, Bumper Crop Soils and Plant Foods.

“Our sales and member support team are on the road visiting members, vendors, and prospects,” Lafferty says. “Have a great year, and hopefully, we will see everyone at a trade show this summer and fall.”
