Greenhouse Industry Veteran Steven Crider Passes Away at Age 56
Steven Dwayne Crider, the owner of greenhouse companies Crider Americas and Crider Solar, passed away in late February after a five-year battle with carcinoid cancer.
Crider was born March 6, 1967, in Huntsville, AL, to Deloris and Dwayne Crider. After a short time in Huntsville, the family moved to Gaithersburg, MD, but not long thereafter, made its way to the city and state where Steven was raised and thrived – Austin, TX. He graduated from McCallum High School in 1985 and wanting to get on with a career path straight out of high school, Steven immersed himself in work and developed expertise in several industries before finding his calling in real estate. Starting as a teenager selling office business machines, he pivoted to selling oil and gas opportunities in Texas, but ultimately had to scratch his entrepreneurial itch. Along with his uncle, Grant Crider and cousins, Steven launched HHGreen, a horticulture company based in Bremen, AL. As its President, Steven guided HHGreen and developed a leading reputation within the commercial greenhouse industry, boasting clients from coast to coast.
After establishing a foothold in the horticulture industry, Steven purchased Simburg, a commercial greenhouse manufacturing company in California, rebranded it as Crider Americas and ultimately relocated its headquarters to Austin. The entrepreneurial streak continued as Steven harnessed Crider Americas’ commercial greenhouse manufacturing capabilities to establish another company, Crider Solar, a company specializing in the manufacture and construction of solar panel structures for various applications.
Steven is survived by his parents, Dee Dee and Dwayne Crider, his beloved children Steven and Charlotte, his sister Kim Crider and brother Clay Crider (Kandie), along with a host of family including uncles, aunts, nieces, and nephews.
The Crider suggests a donation to the Christopher House or your favorite charity in Steven’s honor.
