The MSU trials include 500 to 600 entries, including breeder-sponsored trials, All-America Selections (AAS) Flower Trials, AAS vegetable and bedding plant trials, Fleuroselect and the American Garden Award.

Trial Garden Manager Daedre Craig says spring was late to arrive and heavy rainfall during May (4.3 inches) delayed garden preparations. Heavier than normal rainfall continued through August. Temperatures were cooler than normal, with only a few days pushing above the mid 80s.
