The 2019/2020 FleuroStar Award was recently presented to Begonia elatior ‘Dreams MacaRouge’ from Beekenkamp Plants. Accepting the award, which was presented at Syngenta Flowers’ De Lier, Netherlands, facility, were Cor Bremmer, Commercial Director; Marc Driessen, Managing Director; Sirekit Mol, Marketing Manager and Head of Product Trade; and Ans van der Velde, Manager Breeding.
“Dreams Garden MacaRouge will satisfy the consumer with its shining color, attractive flowers, and fresh image,” noted the jury committee that awarded the prize to Beekenkamp.
“We first saw this begonia five years ago, so we are extremely proud that the MacaRouge is now being recognized,” said van der Velde. “This prize is a great reward and confirmation of our work, and we are very proud of that.”

‘Dreams MacaRouge’ is designed for consumers who want to revitalize their outdoor space with an overload of sweetness. It is an excellent performer and an upright Begonia for outside spaces showing an abundance of single, bright-red flowers with a sweet yellow heart. Dreams Garden MacaRouge from Beekenkamp Plants was competing against Begonia ‘Viking Red on Chocolate’ (Sakata Ornamentals), Pelargonium ‘Pretty Little Pink Splash’ (Syngenta Flowers), Pelargonium ‘Red Explosion’ (Florensis), Pelargonium ‘Survivor Idols Rosalinda’ (Dümmen Orange), and Xerochrysum ‘Granvia Gold’ (MNP Flowers).

The new ‘Winner with the Wow Factor’ was announced at the FleuroStar Evening on Thursday , June13 at Syngenta Flowers. Attended by more than 100 people, the third edition of the event was a big success.
