Following last fall’s approval by the USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service of a petunia plant modified using genetic engineering, the company behind this innovation is looking ahead.

According to a recent Fast Company article, if all goes according to plan for Idaho-based startup Light Bio, those petunias are only the beginning. Next up: more petunias, with different-colored flowers, stripes, and an even brighter glow. You can also expect glowing roses, glowing houseplants, glowing bouquets, and — perhaps a few decades from now — flowers that light up at the touch of your finger.
