Intrinsic Perennial Gardens, Inc. has announced the introduction of a new nodding bulrush.
Introducing Scirpus ‘Stars and Stripes’
This brightly variegated bulrush looks similar to a carex and is a grass-like plant, native to most states and provinces in North America. The strap-like leaves, 3/8 of an inch wide and 12 inches long, have bright yellow centers with green and gold streaking within strong green edges.
In July, butter yellow stems emerge and grow to 24 inches with star-like clusters at the tips. Scirpus ‘Stars and Stripes’ is an easy and fast grower. It has a long lifespan, 10-inch deep rhizomatous, fibrous roots, and is slow to spread, well located on wet shorelines, swamp margins, wet ditches, and meadows.
