Presenting the 2025 Readers’ Choice Award Finalists for Best New Variety
June 25, 2025 After many new introductions earlier this year, some varieties stand out from the rest. Greenhouse Grower will give out three awards in breeding at the Evening of Excellence during Cultivate’ 25 on July 14. One of these awards, the Readers’ Choice Award, is determined based on voting by Greenhouse Grower’s online audience.

The Evening of Excellence is held on Monday, July 14 in the Short North Ballroom at Cultivate’25, powered by AmericanHort. Doors open at 5:00 p.m. and the event begins at 5:30 p.m.

Sun Parasol FiredUp dipladenias are a completely new product as naturally, freestanding upright thrillers full of pinwheel-shaped blooms.
Hydrangea ‘Magical’ (Plants Nouveau)
‘Magical’ features vibrant hues that shift not once, not twice, but three times over their spectacular six-month show.
Leucanthemum maximum ‘Sweet Daisy Kylie’ (Dümmen Orange)
The Leucanthemum Sweet Daisy series is truly first-year flowering, featuring a collection of unique flower forms and habits all demonstrating exceptionally long bloom periods, setting them apart from many other series.
Oenothera ‘Superlophus Sunglow’ (Proven Winners)
This dynamic cultivar is derived from a native Texas species. It thrives in hot, arid, sunny conditions. Additional trials have revealed its versatility and merit in warm, humid climates.
Pansy Top Wave series (PanAmerican Seed)
Top Wave, available in eight colors, features a spreading habit and flowers on the top of the stem. Vigorous trailing adds interest in window boxes, baskets, and containers. ‘Orange’ is the most vigorous in the series.
Rudbeckia ‘Suntacular’ (Darwin Perennials)
This black-eyed Susan emerges in spring but puts on a full seasonal-color show in late summer through the fall. Its flowers attract butterflies while its textured foliage resists deer. The plants grow tall and wide for an amazing value for perennial gardeners.
