Why These 4 Roses are Award-Winners

Star Roses and Plants recently earned four awards from the 2020 American Garden Rose Selections (AGRS) testing program.

AGRS gives special recognition to selections that are easy to care for, disease-resistant, and suitable for different regions of the country.

Star Roses and Plants winners included:

  • ‘Canyon Road,’ a regional choice award winner in the Northeast, Northwest, and South-Central regions.
  • ‘Lemon Fizz,’ a regional choice award winner in the Northwest, South-Central, and Southwest regions.
  • ‘Princesse Charlene de Monaco,’ a fragrance award winner
  • ‘Wedding Bells,’ a regional choice award winner in the Northwest, Southeast, and South-Central regions.

According to AGRS, all roses entered into the program are tested for two years in six different geographical regions, each containing two test gardens. Additional characteristics evaluated include: vigor, foliage proportion, plant habit, flowering effect, re-bloom habit, bloom form, aging quality of blooms, fragrance, and hardiness.

FYI: In order for a variety to be granted an award, it must average at least 80 out of 100 points in at least three regions.
