The International Association of Horticultural Producers (AIPH) has announced a strategic partnership with the Resilient and Inclusive Cities Lab (RICL) at the Asian School of the Environment (ASE) of Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, bringing fresh expertise and practical benefits to cities entering the AIPH World Green City Awards 2026.

In recognition of these added benefits, AIPH has extended the entry deadline to Oct. 19, 2025, giving more cities the opportunity to showcase their excellence on a truly global stage.

What Are the 2026 World Green City Awards?

Initiated by AIPH and supported by its network of Green City Partners, the AIPH World Green City Awards champion ambitious nature-oriented approaches to city design and operation. Cities around the world are encouraged to enter the Awards to showcase their achievement and commitment to plants and nature for providing solutions to address major challenges facing urban environments.

The AIPH World Green City Awards 2026 comprise seven categories, which acknowledge the efforts of cities to address common urban issues:

AIPH and RICL Partnership Details

This collaboration with RICL will leverage the lab’s expertise in natural infrastructure for urban resilience and climate adaptation to strengthen the impact of the awards. The lab’s extensive evidence base on the benefits and successful implementation of urban greening will offer a deeper evaluation of entries into the awards, helping to celebrate initiatives that beautify cities and build sustainable, fair, and resilient futures for all residents.

“We are thrilled to welcome the Resilient and Inclusive Cities Lab as our partner,” says Tim Briercliffe, Secretary General of AIPH. “Their work aligns with our mission to champion the power of plants to create healthier, more prosperous cities. This partnership will help us to inspire urban leaders around the world to adopt strategies that are both environmentally sound and socially equitable.”

Cities that enter the awards will now benefit from RICL’s expertise. Through the partnership, RICL and AIPH will provide feedback on each entry, highlighting the strengths of the initiative and identifying areas for improvement to further benefit the city. There is also scope for entrants to participate in capacity-building services, helping them integrate living green more effectively into urban infrastructure and deliver lasting improvements to cities, people, and the planet.

“Our expertise in geospatial modeling and social science enables us to provide data-driven feedback to enhance the AIPH World Green City Awards,” says Assistant Professor Perrine Hamel of RICL. “With this partnership, we strive to empower cities, helping them build more resilient and inclusive communities.”
