A Year of Big Happenings in the Greenhouse Industry

Like many of you, our team at Greenhouse Grower made sure to venture out of the office as much as possible this year and catch up in person with many of you. Fortunately, there were a number of industry events that brought different segments of the industry together.
Cultivate’19
Check out this slideshow of highlights from Greenhouse Grower’s Medal of Excellence event during Cultivate’19. The industry’s largest gathering in the U.S. also included new product debuts, a riveting town hall discussion, and more.
Growing Innovations
The second annual Growing Innovations conference, which took place in November in Las Vegas, brought together growers and technology suppliers from across the specialty crop industry for a closer look at the latest innovations available to leading growers, and how they can make the best use of it. But the event wasn’t just about suppliers making their products available. It was a great opportunity to learn how technology is shaping the direction growers can take their businesses, as well as structural changes that owners and managers can consider.
California Spring Trials
Always one of the busiest weeks of the year, the 2019 California Spring Trials offered a glimpse at new plant introductions from a wide range of categories. Greenhouse Grower Editor Janeen Wright and Contributing Editor Allan Armitage made the trek along the California coast. GreenhouseConnect
GreenhouseConnect is a one-of-a-kind experience. Where else can decision makers from large greenhouse operations and vendor companies come together for the sole purpose of one-on-one meetings and networking? Well, that’s what took place in October in picturesque Olympic Valley, CA, near Lake Tahoe. This year marked the first time some of the most progressive ornamentals operations in North America were joined by greenhouse vegetable and cannabis operations for meetings with leading industry suppliers, networking, and socializing.
Biocontrols USA Conference and Expo
Growers who attended the 2019 Biocontrols West pre-conference tour in Portland, OR, were treated to an exhibition of a drone distributing beneficial insects, a tour of noted perennial breeder Terra Nova Nurseries, where they grow some of their own beneficials, and sessions at the North Willamette Research and Extension Center. The day finished off with a visit at Oregon Hophouse, where Patrick Leavy uses biocontrols in his hopfields (along with a walk on the scaffold of his hops thresher) and a wine tasting and educational session at the Willamette Valley Winery.
