Hot Water Tank Rupture Injures Three at Maryland Greenhouse
Three employees at Catoctin Mtn Growers in Keymar, MD greenhouse were injured, including a 65-year-old man who sustained severe injuries, after a hot water tank ruptured late last week.
A story on TheBaltimoreBanner.com says firefighters responded to Catoctin Mtn Growers in Keymar at 5:05 p.m. Friday. First responders found the 1.1 million-gallon tank had ruptured and the 180-degree water had entirely spilled out, causing the building to partially collapse, the post said. An overturned vehicle was also found tangled in the damage.
The three injured employees were burned, according to Frederick County Fire and Rescue. The 65-year-old man was flown to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, fire officials said. Catoctin Mtn Growers said in a post that the employee was in stable condition.
The water tank was on the south side of the 23-acre property. Catoctin Mtn Growers said its retail greenhouse was not impacted and it will open for the spring this weekend.
Catoctin Mtn Growers posted the following on their Facebook page after the incident:
“We want to thank everyone for their thoughts and concerns. We had a water tank collapse on the South side of the property. One person was injured and is in stable condition. We ask for continued prayers. Our retail greenhouse that is along Sixes Bridge road was not in the affected area. We thank everyone for their support during this time.”
