Michigan State University (MSU) has several horticulture education opportunities and new tools available now and into the new year, including online courses for the winter 2025-2026 session, resource guides, up-to-date tracker reports, and more. 2026 Soil Fertility and Nutrient Management Training

A one-day training session on soil fertility and nutrient management planning will be held by MSU Extension on Thursday, Feb. 5, 2026. Headlined by MSU Soil Fertility Specialist Kurt Steinke and other Extension speakers, the training is divided into multiple sessions focused on:

  • Economics
  • Nitrogen
  • Nutrient Interactions
  • Micronutrients
  • Sulfur
  • And more

Abiotic Disorders of Greenhouse Crops Course

Registration for Abiotic Disorder of Greenhouse Crops is now open. Available in both English and Spanish with instruction from Heidi Lindberg, the three-month, self-paced, pre-recorded online course will teach participants about how different cultural and environmental factors affect plant growth, “thereby inducing or contributing to the onset of abiotic disorders of greenhouse crops.” Registration closes on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026.

An information session will be held on Thursday, Nov. 20, 2025, sharing recommendations and requesting feedback regarding the development of the Michigan Farm School and Early Care Network for those involved in farm and farm-to-school early care and education (ECE) matters within the state.

Bulletins Live! Two Tracker Reports for Pesticides Impacted by EPA Label Directives

In response to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) implementing a new label directive on pesticides that “requires applicators to check a live online system for additional use limitations based on the application parameters,” called Bulletins Live! Two (BLT), MSU Extension is rolling out a BLT Tracker Report. The BLT Tracker Report lists products impacted by the directive that will be updated twice a month, making it easy for growers to keep track of new changes and limitations.

Greenhouse and Horticultural Lighting Course

Registration for Greenhouse and Horticultural Lighting is now open. Available in both English and Spanish with instruction from Heidi Lindberg, the three-month, self-paced, pre-recorded online course will teach participants about the fundamental concepts of “how plants respond to light quality, quantity, and duration.” Registration closes on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026.

Root Zone Management Course

Registration for Root Zone Management is now open. Available in both English and Spanish with instruction from Heidi Lindberg, the three-month, self-paced, pre-recorded online course will teach participants about “irrigation water, media, and their effects on plant nutrition,” including “the latest practical information on root zone management techniques” for ornamental greenhouse crops. Registration closes on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026.
